The 2019 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup will be held in Japanese cities Fukuoka (Marine Messe), Nagano (White Ring), and Hiroshima (Green Arena) from 1st to 15th October.
The opening match is between Australia and Egypt at 4:00 (CEST) in Nagano. It will be live on SK 3 Croatia/Slovenia/Serbia.
The Olympic champions Brazil are on top of the FIVB ranking, aiming for a third World Cup win in Japan.
The USA topped the men’s 2015 FIVB World Cup standings, followed by Italy and Poland. A year later, Italy won silver and USA bronze in Rio Olympics.
This is twelfth time for Japan as a host since 1977, but it is the first time since 1989 that the Federation Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) decided not to allocate any spots in the Olympics, due to Japan hosting the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Hosts Japan and back-to-back World Championship winners Poland have qualified automatically. There are twelve teams on the competition, top two of each continental federation based on FIVB World Rankings on 1 January 2019, except the host and the last World Champions. All 12 teams competing will play against each other in one round-robin group with the table-toppers winning the tournament.
