PGA Tour has agreed a partnership with the Yahoo.com to deliver free live video from tournaments along with on-demand highlights and other video content.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but cooperation has started yesterday with the Pebble Beach Pro-Am event.
This event is one of the most exciting events on the PGA Tour playing in front of over 150,000 spectators and millions of television viewers on three of the Monterey Peninsula’s premier golf courses: Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill Golf Course, and Monterey Peninsula Country Club Shore Course. All tournament proceeds benefit Monterey Bay charities.
Yahoo will provide live coverage during early rounds of the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and upcoming tournaments such as Players Championship and FedEx cup Playoffs.
“We’re excited to expand our sports offering through our partnership with the PGA Tour and to bring fans closer to the live action of tournaments, like The PLAYERS Championship and FedEx Cup Playoffs,” said Phil Lynch in his statement, VP, Media Partnerships at Yahoo.
“Bringing PGA Tour’s premium content to Yahoo makes a great addition to our lineup and further demonstrates our commitment to delivering the best digital sports content to our users and advertisers.”
Yahoo will also offer global access to video on demand (VOD) PGA Tour content, including highlights and original content from tournaments on the PGA Tour, Champions, Web.com Tour, PGA Tour Latinoamérica, and Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada.
Yahoo and the PGA Tour have also launched a live, co-branded PGA Tour leaderboard, which includes live play-by-play, shot-by-shot graphics, live audio and VOD.
“Yahoo continues to be one of the largest sports audiences in the world, and we look forward to distributing PGA Tour Live Featured Holes coverage via Yahoo Golf platforms around the world,” said Rick Anderson, PGA Tour executive vice president of global media in his statement.
The PGA Tour also gains exposure for its PGA Tour Live streaming service, launched last year, which streams competitions (free and pay tiers, $5.99 monthly).
