Astra 19.2°E – ARD and ZDF secure TV rights for European handball championship in Poland

EHF European Championship takes place from 15. to 31. January in Poland. Final match will be held on 31 january 2016 in Tauron Arena, Krakow.

Denmark is the team with most medals won in European Championship history with a total of six medals, those being two gold medals (2008, 2012), one silver (2014) and three bronze medals (2002, 2004 & 2006).

The last EHF European Men’s Handball Championship was the 11th edition of the tournament and held in Denmark from 12–26 January 2014. France won their third title after defeating Denmark 41–32 in the final, and become the first team in history winning three major titles in row.

The sports rights agency of ARD and ZDF, SportA, has secured the exclusive media rights for the Men’s European Handball Championships 2016 in Poland and 2018 in Croatia.

Under the agreement, the public service broadcasters ARD and ZDF, including their regional channels, will transmit all matches of the German national team along with other highlights of the two tournament.

In Poland, the host broadcast will be handled by Polsat and supervised by Infront. The TV signal will be produced in HD quality using up to 15 cameras per game.  

ARD is a joint organisation of Germany’s regional public-service and world’s largest public broadcaster, with a budget of €6.3 billion and 23,000 employees. The main television channels of the ARD are the nationwide Das Erste and seven regional channels operated by the different regional broadcasting institutions. 

Together with ZDF, ARD covers FIFA World Cup through 2022, European Football Championships in 2016, Germany National Team friendly matches, Olympic Games 2016, America’s Cup, Winter sports, main world athletics events and shows also DFBPokal matches together Sky Germany.

Together with the seven regional channels ARD provides eclusively but 3. Bundesliga matches and two 2.Bundesliga relegation playoffs matches live and free. 

ZDF, Second German Television, is a public-service television broadcaster based in Mainz, Rhineland-Palatinate. ZDF is available freetoair throughout Europe on Astra 19.2°E and Hot Bird 13°E satellite positions.

Together with ARD, ZDF covers FIFA World Cup through 2022, European Football Championships in 2016, Germany National Team friendly matches, Olympic Games 2016, America’s Cup, Winter sports, main world athletics events and and shows also UEFA Champions League Wednesday match as a free-to-air TV broadcasters.
