BBL and WBBL Play-Off Finals on Sunday 8th May in O2 Arena, are to be shown live on the BBC red button and online via the BBC Sport website. 15000 spectators on the last year finals are the sign that UK has a strong basketball community.

“We are delighted to be able to partner with the BBC to show both finals live,” said BBL commercial director Bob Hope in his statement and also added, “It promises to be a great day for the basketball community.”

BBC Coverage will attract even more basketball fans in future.

About BBL (Men’s British Basketball League)

The British Basketball League, known as BBL, is the top tier men’s professional basketball league in the United Kingdom, formed in 1987 as a franchise-based competition without promotion or relegation.

The BBL runs two knockout competitions alongside the BBL Championship; the BBL Cup and the BBL Trophy, as well as the post-season Play-offs.

Currently the League consists of 12 teams with representation from both England and Scotland. No British teams currently compete in European competition. Newcastle Eagels is the team with the seven titles.

About WBBL (Women’s British basketball League)

The Women’s British Basketball League, known as WBBL is the top-level women’s professional basketball league in the United Kingdom, founded on 5 June 2014 as the women’s counterpart to the British Basketball League (BBL).

Like the BBL, the organisation uses a franchise-based system so there is no promotion and relegation between the WBBL and the English Women’s Basketball League, which forms the lower divisions.

Along with the WBBL Championship and the post-season Play-offs, it also runs the WBBL Trophy – a knockout competition featuring all WBBL member teams.
