The origin of Futsal can be traced back to Uruguay, in 1930 when Juan carlos Ceriani created a five-a-side version of soccer for youth competition. Brazil is considered today as a home of futsal, but great futsal is played, under the auspieces of FIFA, in more than 100 countries worldwide.
The name FUTSAL comes from Spanish or Portuguese word FUTbol or FUTebol, and the Spanish worg for “indoor”, Sala. The first international competition took place in 1965, when Paraguay won the first South American Cup.
